Tali's Bundle Update
This November, we collected love letters for Tali— a young woman trying desperately to remember her purpose and rediscover her joy.
Tali’s mom wrote to us to share about her “wonderful, creative, intelligent, funny, and sensitive” daughter. 24-year-old Tali holds a deep love of animals and a passion for social justice issues, a brilliantly creative mind for writing, art, cookery, and crafts, and a great love of literature and theatre. She graduated a few years ago with a distinction in Performing Arts and Musical Theatre, and was beginning to build a life for herself.
However, immense trauma caused Tali to experience a devastating breakdown and decline. She developed OCD and complex PTSD, and struggled to eat.
“She's a fiercely loyal and devoted friend and a delightful family member,” wrote Tali’s mom. “She's brave and determined but suffers from loneliness, isolation, exhaustion, frustration (with her PTSD symptoms), and sometimes depression. Most days she just can't see an end to her suffering and needs to know she really deserves to be happy and have a life she loves.”
Tali needed encouragement and hope, and to be reminded that she was strong enough to overcome all that the past few years had thrown at her. She was beginning to find her footing again - to try to do things she enjoys and cares about - and desperately needed connection and to feel competent, to have a sense of purpose again. Tali’s mom hoped that love letters would spur her on in the fight.
Despite the ongoing postal strikes in the UK, you all showed up and showed out.
“There was one day when my daughter uncharacteristically beat me to the mailbox and found a bunch of 5 letters with her name on and opened them!” her mom wrote.
“I've had to explain a little about what's happening now. But she was really really touched and it brightened her mood for the rest of the day. She's happy for me to keep gathering and surprise her with the whole bundle at the end.”
Over the course of the month, over 100 love letters arrived in Tali’s mailbox. Her mom shared that it was “lovely” to see how the letters affected her. Amidst the loneliness that she had been facing, your letters were a bright spot, a reminder to keep going.
“That little bit of connection made a huge difference.”
