300+ Love Letters for Brenda
Sometimes, the letter writer needs a turn to be the one with a full mailbox.
Brenda’s niece, Kaitlyn, nominated her aunt for a love letter bundle as a part of the 12 Days of Love Letters campaign. Like us, Brenda is a letter writer. Kaitlyn wrote us to share her aunt’s story.
“Aunt Brenda has sent a card for every occasion in my life - from major holidays to flag days and everything in between. She mailed microwaveable cakes for college birthdays when we couldn't have a family party, and goes out of the way to send love and cheer to not just me but our whole family.”
Brenda lives alone after losing her cat a few years ago, and the pandemic times have been incredibly lonely for her. Kaitlyn thought that a burst of handwritten encouragement could be just what her aunt needed.
“I send her cards and check in on her with phone calls, but I think it would blow her away to get a bundle of letters herself and do a 'goes around comes around' type thing. Maybe she can open them when she needs a pick me up or on those random "holidays" that aren't typical for a card. She's just really a special person and I'm looking for ways to let her know it.”
What goes around comes around—preferably in an envelope and with a pretty stamp.
Kaitlyn wrote to share just how much your words meant to her aunt.
“I absolutely loved having done this. It was awesome to watch all the cards, letters, and even some other small things come in the mail. In total we ended up with 304 mailings - from 42 states and 6 countries. I gave the cards to Aunt Brenda as a Christmas gift (but we had a very late celebration when we were finally able to be together as a group) and it went over even better than I expected. She was touched that so many people 1) saw the post at all and 2) took time out of their season to send her good cheer. I appreciate all of you who write, read, and post. I hope you get happy mail sometime soon for yourselves.”
