300+ Love Letters for Michael
This is the reminder that Michael’s mother knew he needed, and the reminder that you all gave him.
“Michael is suffering and needs support,” Diana wrote. Michael was injured at birth, and as a result, one of his arms is partially paralyzed and atrophied from elbow to hand. Despite this, Diana wrote that nothing stopped Michael from flourishing as a child. “He joined cub scouts, led the school talent shows, he even joined a little league,” she shared. “He is brilliantly smart and excelled in school where he was beloved by many.”
In junior high and high school, however, Michael was hit by the perfect storm. He struggled with feelings of self-consciousness, which was spurred on by the bullying he endured. He didn’t have a strong support system of friends, and found himself having a hard time academically, experiencing discord and loss within his family, and moving out of his childhood home. Michael’s mother wrote that he gave up on himself, escaping into video games. While his peers went off to jobs and college, he stayed home, gaming. His faith in himself was shattered, and he didn’t believe himself to still be the smart, capable person he was throughout childhood.
“He was an inspiration to others then and he can still be that today,” Diana wrote. “He has no direction in life and no belief in himself. He needs the support of others besides his mother to let him know that no matter where we find ourselves we can always start again….there is always a way to find our path and be happy in life.”
By the first two letters, Diana was already overcome with emotion at what this would mean to her son. Little did she know what you all had in store for Michael - over three hundred letters.
Diana shared that Michael was “overwhelmed with emotion and said it was ‘cool’ that so many people cared enough to send their support.”
And it mattered.
Michael has plans to move out on his own next month, and has been looking for a job. Day by day, he’s headed towards the path he’s meant to be on.
“Thanks to all the letters he received, he was given the emotional boost he needed!” Diana wrote.
“People are so good. I am beyond grateful to you for choosing my son. Thank you thank you thank you.”
