300+ Love Letters for Denika

In February, our community collected love letters for Denika— a new mom to a beautiful little girl who’d just found out her dad had an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Her facilitator, a close friend, sent along a sweet testimonial we couldn’t resist sending your way:

“Wow, just wow! Thank you so much to everyone who took time out of their daily lives to send some words of love, light, joy, and encouragement! Being able to read through all these letters encouraged me immensely! The creativity within the letters was so beautiful; unique touches like adding vintage stamps, homemade envelopes, and personal drawings showed deep care in the writing process. Some included stickers, glitter, dried flowers, and personal touches from the writer.

Another personal touch was the many Airbnb suggestions from writers, as Denika and her husband love to find unique places to stay.

I gave the bundles to Denika, and she was so overwhelmed with gratitude that people would take the time to write to her that she was truly lost for words.

The box I got couldn’t even hold all the letters she received! This gift will last a lifetime for Denika, her family, her daughter, and me.
— LAUREL, BUNDLE FACILITATOR

On the first day she received them, she read one letter to her family at a birthday dinner (that happened to be that evening) and said everyone at the table cried. What a true gift your words bring to others, writing community!”

Denika received over 300 love letters, but our favorite part to read about was when her facilitator highlighted some people who took time out of their busy days to write to Denika.

Those people include (but are not limited to):

  • A sweet grade 3 class learning to write “friendly” letters

  • Multiple groups of co-workers at some banks and insurance companies

  • A Rotary exchange group

  • High school students

  • Elderly couples

  • A few whole families

  • University friends

…and so many others who connected with their own experiences to bring words of wisdom, kindness, and light!

“The box I got couldn't even hold all the letters she received! This gift will last a lifetime for Denika, her family, her daughter, and me.”
