Bruce’s Bundle Update
Medical complications are always hard to walk through, and Bruce has faced a difficult year. Hospitalized at the beginning of 2023, Bruce was diagnosed with diabetes, and the already-challenging disease caused distress on his eyesight.
Suddenly, Bruce couldn’t work, or even see, and he was discouraged. His daughter Kira wrote to us to share her dad’s story, and to ask the community to give him a reminder to keep going.
You gave him even more.
“The process of being involved in the letters is really something, I want to say akin to magic,” Kira wrote. “Because you really don't think people will send all that many letters - and I write letters each month as the requests change myself to other people - but when it's your loved one's mail you're getting, you don't expect a lot. At least I didn't.”
You surpassed her wildest expectations, and filled her mailbox with so much kindness. “I was just so happy that people would go out of their way to do that,” she said. “Then there were more. People who put heart and soul into writing their letters, decorating the cards, making the cards, how FAR people from me wrote to tell my dad how important he is. I had NO bad letters I had to throw out.”
Initially intended as a Father’s Day gift for her dad, Kira said that the letters were a gift to her, too.
“Every word I read and was meant for my father touched me so deeply. People take time out of their days to write something sweet, something encouraging, uplifting - to someone who really needs it. My father has been dealing with his struggles for close to a year now, and I think that when he does read the letters he won't tell me - but being a part of something so special on the receiving end is absolutely magic.”
“Thank you so much to the MLL staff and the beautiful souls that are letter writers….I'm so grateful I got to be part of this big beautiful project you guys do. You have no idea how much this means to me.”
