Steven’s Bundle Update
In October 2023, we collected love letters for Steven.
In case you need the refresher, Steven lost his wife a little over a year ago after 64 years of marriage. His daughter nominated him to receive a Love Letter Bundle— especially because Steven looks forward to getting the mail every day.
Well, it’s no surprise to us (since you’re amazing in every way), but this community showed up for Steven in a big way.
His daughter wrote to us, “My name is Sharon, and last month, my dad Steven, was nominated to receive letters. I honestly was very unfamiliar with The World Needs More Love Letters. I was hoping he'd get a couple dozen letters, and we could open them together. Instead, he got hundreds of them :-).
She went on to write that the most amazing part of the experience was getting to hear from people all over the world— perfect strangers who not only took the time to write a note but many who created their own cards, book markers (Steven is an avid reader), and even sent books.
One of my favorite images we received included a letter from a woman in Maine who sent Steven her favorite Stephen King novel.
Sharon shared that there were “sweet people from Ireland who wrote about their life while they were drinking their cuppa tea and inviting my dad to have a cup and join them while he read their letter, an envelope from Japan with sweet notes and folded origami swans, as well as letters from Canada and England. And the beautifully written letters from all over the United States. Many included the history of their areas and jokes, which my father loved to read, and we laughed at. Many sympathized with losing my mom and my dad and mom's long marriage of 64 years and their words brought tears of comfort. We received letters from many college students who were witty and made us laugh and some from children with drawings that my dad put on the refrigerator. We sat in awe of so many creative people who made their own cards that were exquisite; some were hand-painted watercolor, some were intricate cutouts, and some were simple construction paper and stickers. Not a single letter went unappreciated. Many of them I read to my dad and he would want to know what country or state they were from. (So many wonder people in Georgia!!).”
Sharon shared with us that she and her dad have gotten into a rhythm where she reads the love letters to him. They are savoring the letters, day by day.
Sharon finished with this last bit of goodness, “ I wish I could find the words to express how much you have deeply touched our lives. Thank you for all that you do. After seeing how deeply this touched my dad, I am 100% on board and committed to keep writing letters to those requesting them. I hope you feel our big hugs and smiles to all of you❤️”
Thank you to everyone who helped write to Steven and make this miraculous bundle for a grieving dad possible. We’re so grateful and we love delivering impact alongside you!
